The tip of the Iceberg
Photo taken on February 21, 2012
According to Wikipedia, what you see of an Iceberg is only a small percent of what is actually there. Apparently, up to 90% of an iceberg is out of sight under the water's surface. Well, I'm starting to feel like my alley cat project is like that iceberg. What I have seen so far is just the tip of the iceberg. I went out to try to catch a cat last night for about 2 hours. I saw so many cats. They were busy running around. At one time one looked like it might be interested in entering my trap when along came a big yowling grey (I think) cat and scared it off. The grey cat was obviously into the mating season thing and had no interest in my trap or in eating at all. I believe it was a male and he roamed the entire neighbourhood yowling like he was dying. I know he wasn't.
I saw the tame black cat with the collar on; I saw Lexus. And I saw Henry. Henry spent quite awhile hanging around. I snapped a couple of pictures of him with my cell phone, though they didn't turn out overly well. He is barely recognizable, though with my bare eye I could see him quite well. Henry and Lexus of course wanted nothing to do with my trap. Lexus actually ran away when he saw it, but Henry just snooped around for awhile then wandered off.
In the morning on my way to work when I changed out the water dish I saw a huge cat with a small cat - maybe a kitten, I don't know. In any case I guess my work is far from finished here. I plan to push for awhile now to try to get as many as I can before spring. Good thing my new trap has arrived so I can double my chances of catching something. My old trap is not working as well as it used to, so I don't know how many more cats it will catch. I am able to get it to work, but I have to be careful when setting it to make sure it will spring properly.
